GOV. Gwendolyn Garcia finally faced rumors of a romantic relationship with her vice gubernatorial candidate Glenn Anthony Soco.
“Rumors, not true. But even if they are true, no legal impediment,” Garcia told reporters yesterday.
Both Garcia and Soco, interviewed separately, laughed at the rumors and said they are just “good friends” with a professional relationship, now that they are running mates.

When asked if the rumors affected her, Garcia said, “Not at all. If for nothing else, I find these helping Glenn’s candidacy because I’m getting feedback from those not normally interested in politics. Now they are interested in Glenn Soco because of these interesting showbiz tidbits.”
Soco also said the rumors are unfair to certain people but he understands these come with the political territory. Soco is dating former Bb. Pilipinas winner Anna Maris Igpit.
Another attack on Soco was the allegation of a nurse who used to work in a private company through Powerline Human Resource Management Inc. The nurse, who only agreed to be interviewed if she was not named, said that while the company pays her more than P400 a day, Powerline, managed by Soco’s sister, only released P250.
Soco believes this was a political ploy because the nurse has an option to raise her concerns before the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) or the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC), but didn’t.
“In the first place, it’s anonymous, and why should she incriminate Governor Garcia as one of the owners? That is not true. Second, the facts are not there. If I have to face it, what are the facts?” asked Soco.
Soco, in running for vice governor, has resigned as president and chief operating officer of Mandaue Integrated Manpower Services Inc. (MIMS). His mother Adelina has come out of retirement to take over the company. Most of the utility employees in Capitol are from MIMS.
Another manpower services company belonging to the Socos, Powerline, also previously won contracts to supply health care professionals to the province’s district hospitals.
New drink
Soco will stay as head of Coffee Dream and Global Power Skills and Training Center, although he said he cannot manage the daily operations anymore.
Garcia joked that Soco should create a new drink for Coffee Dream called “Socolate,” pronounced as socolahteh, alluding to the joke about a possible romantic relationship between the two One Cebu candidates.
The joke goes: What is Garcia’s favorite food? Socolate.
Garcia and Soco have been going around the province to distribute financial aid. While this has been criticized as an early form of campaigning, One Cebu spokesperson Rory Jon Sepulveda said it is not a campaign sortie, but an official business, which is also an opportunity for Soco to be introduced.
This is not a free ride though, said Soco. He said he is going around the province in his personal capacity.
“I’ve always been with a lot of activities of the governor in the towns. What is good about Governor Gwen’s administration is that there is really a private sector and government relationship,” said Soco.
He explained this is not the first time he went with the governor to the towns. Even before he was announced as the running mate, Soco said he had joined the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo caravans and organized the Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup with the Capitol.
It was the Christmas party for Capitol employees yesterday but Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez failed to attend. He was supposed to offer the wine during the morning ma**, with Governor Garcia offering the bread.
Capitol also opened yesterday its agro-fair, where the towns get to sell their vegetables and fruits, as well as accessories and other items. (JGA)
